Jervis lay in his bed that night, rejoicing over the day, but extremely tired. His time with that girl, Jennifer, had been nervewracking, both before and after dinner. It had been enjoyable, but he had been panicked the whole time that his mother or, worse, her father or his father, would come in. Not Suzy, he could have talked her out of saying anything, but any of the adults. Not that they had come upstairs. He had seen Mother look at Jennifer when they had come downstairs (separately, Jennifer talking brightly with Suzy) and relax at the look on her face. If only she knew. And if only Dad would invite the Marshall’s back sometime!
